
Ingredients
- Vegan Char Siu:
- 500g firm tofu, drained
- 3 tbsp LKK Char Siu Sauce
- 3 tbsp water
- 4 tbsp corn starch, to dust tofu
- 2 tbsp oil, or as required
- Fragrant Rice:
- 2 cloves garlic chopped, 4 ginger slices
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 cups medium grain rice
- Water for cooking rice, as required
- Condiments and garnish:
- Homemade chilli sauce, to serve
- Pickles and sliced cucumber, to serve
- Coriander, as garnish
- Sesame seeds, optional, as garnish on char siu
Method
- Rinse rice until it runs clear.
- Place cooking oil in a pan, with medium heat saute ginger and garlic until golden brown.
- Place all fragrant rice ingredients into the rice cooker and cook.
- In a bowl, combine LKK Char Siu Sauce and water to make a marinade , leave aside.
- Slice tofu lengthways into long rectangular log slabs.
- Rub all sides of tofu log slabs with cornstarch.
- In a non-stick pan, pan fry tofu slabs until all sides are golden brown with a crust.
- Reduce heat on pan, add in the char siu marinade and reduce until all char siu marinade is soaked up by the tofu slabs and has a slight char.
- Remove tofu slabs from pan. Slice, and serve with cooked rice, condiments and garnish. Enjoy your char siu rice :)
