Ingredients
- 4 Yaki nori sheets
- Rice wine vinegar - 3 tablespoons
- Sushi rice - 1 cup
- White sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 and a half teaspoons
- 1 and a half cups water for rice
- Water on the side to wet your hands
- Cooked prawns (deshelled and deveined)
- Avocado
- Kewpie mayonnaise
Method
- Follow sushi rice packet instructions to cook the rice
- Mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl. Make sure the sugar and salt has dissolved
- Once rice is cooked, fluff by running a fork through it. Transfer to a larger bowl and gently add in the rice vinegar mix.
- If you have a spread out handheld fan, use to cool down the rice, otherwise, keep mixing the rice gently until it has cooled down
- Use a bamboo sushi mat to help roll the sushi and place a nori sheet on the bamboo mat, shiny side down.
- Use wet hands to spread a thin layer of rice on top. Squeeze some mayonnaise on the rice. Arrange the cooked prawns and avocado on top of the first quarter of rice, closest to you. Lift one end of the mat and roll it tightly over filling to make a complete roll. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Use a wet, sharp knife to cut each roll into 4 to 6 slices
- Tip #1: keep your hands wet when handling the rice.Tip #2: If you do not have a bamboo sushi mat, the easiest way to roll sushi is with a clean tea towel.
